Ricketts Point Marine Sanctuary
On Sunday the 28th June, 13 new Sea Search volunteers including students from the Leibler Yavneh Secondary College gathered at Rickett’s Point Marine Sanctuary to conduct monitoring of the plants and animals on the intertidal rock platform. The weather was kind and the discovery of beautiful algae and molluscs among the rocks enchanted all involved. Rosebud TAFE at 16th BeachStudents at Chisolm TAFE in Rosebud had a very early start on a chilly, windy day of intertidal monitoring at 16th Beach in Rye on Monday the 20th July. The stamina of all involved was rewarded by the discovery of limpets, whelks and a variety of algae, not to mention the lovely hot chocolate afterwards at a local coffee shop gem. Mushroom ReefThe woolly winds of August 15th that had calls to the SES all across Melbourne drove us away from our monitoring early on at Mushroom Reef Marine Sanctuary in Flinders as the elements won the transect tapes and our sure footing. The rematch will be rescheduled. Jawbone Seagrass MonitoringJawbone Marine Care Group and others were thankful that the sun arrived to keep us cheery despite the 10.5 degree water we plunged our faces in to see the seagrass gently swaying in the shallows. Hugh braved the depths to call out the Heterozostera measurements to Sandy, and Vu shivered but stayed positive in the discovery of the short Zostera, epiphytes and bivalves. |
