Rare and Uncommon Fish Species Program

The Rare and Uncommon Fish Species program is a series of surveys which will be carried out in the South Australian gulfs region in 2008/09

The project aims to increase knowledge regarding the distribution, within South Australian marine habitat, of approximately 50 marine species of which there is very little known.

Examples of marine life that will be observed include; weedfish, clingfish, eel-blennies, snake-blennies, several less common syngnathids, anglerfish, prowfish, velvetfish and less common leatherjackets to name a few.

Surveys will be undertaken using three methods: SCUBA diving, snorkelling and hand netting.

Species will be photographed and information regarding habitat will be documented for future reference.
