Computershare volunteers at Yarra Bend

2009 has been a busy and exciting year for the Green Connections program.

The number of companies supporting the environment and the well being of their staff through the Green Connections Corporate Volunteer days has been fantastic.

In March we met with KPMG (through United Way) volunteers in Royal Park where the group undertook a large amount of work in the region north of Oak Street.

April was a very busy month for Green Connections with; NAB Broker volunteers mulching and planting alongside the very committed and enthusiastic Friends of Westgate Park, volunteers from Commonwealth Bank of Australia (through United Way) braving the rain and working on the vegie gardens at Caitlin’s Retreat, Sofitel on Collins volunteers providing much needed protection to the trees in the park area north of the lake and Computershare undertaking revegetation work with Parks Victoria Rangers at Yarra Bend.

The Green Connections team attended the Good Company’s Environmental Speed Dating at National Australia Bank which saw several skilled volunteers approach the People & Parks Foundation to assist with our work.

Michelle Sutherland from NAB has now started as a volunteer assisting us with research and project administration and Chris Lerch, an Event Management student from William Angliss has also joined us as a volunteer to help plan and organise our events.

The 6th of March saw us attend the volunteer open day Leibler Yavneh College; we are now working with the students to organise a student volunteer day at Brighton foreshore.

We are also currently in the process of organising a Family Volunteer Green Connections Day format which we are very excited about and will be available as an option for corporate groups or as a community project. Please contact us at info@peopleandparks.org for further information or to register your interest.
